Bouvet Saphir Saumur Brut Vintage 2022

A pale yellow colour with a light pear/apple bouquet. A nice quaff with notes of apples and pears. Medium-bodied with a light acidity. My rating 8/10.

Markus Huber

From Austria, this bubbly is crafted from a blend of 10 different grape varieties sourced from a single vineyard. Fresh and animated, with notions of citrus, tropical fruit and mineral. A very refreshing and summery quaff. Would be good as an accompaniment to fish or fowl. My rating 8.5/10.

Pierre Sparr Crémant d'Alsace

A distinctly different type of bubbly made exclusively from the Auxerrois grape. Pale yellow colour with a light fruitiness in the bouquet. Light pear and apple on the palette with a citrusy finish. My Rating 8/10.

J de Villibois Crémant de Loire

Another Crémant de Loire, this has a very pale colour and nice toasty, citrusy bouquet. Citrus with a little toast and a nice acidity. My rating 7/10.

Wolfberger Brut Crémant d'Alsace

Around since 1902, Wolberger notes with this brut that it has "persistent bubbles, notes of orchard fruits and citrus zest." Pale yellow colour with with a light sharpish fruit bouquet. It does have persistent bubbles! Taste is light fruit with a slight astringency that would be the citrus that they note. Pleasant if fairly simple. My rating 7.5/10.

Bailly Lapierre Pinot Noir Brut Crémant de Bourgogne

My second Bailly Lapierre. This tastes very much like the Réserve that I had earlier. As described then:

This "bubbly displays attractive citrus, nuts, toast with delicate floral and biscuit tones. Cleansing and fresh..." Light amber colour. Finishes dry with very good toasty finish. I would enjoy this as an accompaniment to seafood or white meat rather than for quaffing. My rating 7.5/10.

Louis Bouillot Rosé Crémant de Bourgogne Brut

Another bubbly from Burgundy. This has a light strawberry colour with a matching bouquet. Taste is off-dry with a light berry taste that finishes nicely a little drier. My rating 8/10.

Château de Montguéret Crémant de Loire Brut

This bubbly from the Loire Valley is made from chenin blanc. It is a pale amber like a light ginger ale with a toasty and light floral bouquet. Taste is light, just off-dry (for a French brut) with a hint of citrus and mineral with a touch of floral. A nice quaff on its own or with cheese or seafood. My rating 8.5/10.

André Clouet Grande Réserve Brut

Had this on New Years Eve 2025-26. Very dry, even for a French brut but more than I like. Dominant taste is toasty with citrusy background. My Rating 5.5/10.

Veuve Ambal Brut Crémant De Bourgogne

A nice refreshing bubbly at a very reasonable price. From Natalie MacLean's review:

A staggeringly great value [at $22.90].... Tasty, toasty and bright with green apple refreshment. [It] finishes with white floral notes and lime zest. The vineyards from which the grapes are sourced have a similar topography to the neighboring region of Champagne to the north. Pair with fried chicken....

As she said, a great value. I enjoyed very much and would rate it 8.5/10.

Cecilia Brut Marlborough Cuvée NV

I had this at the Allan Scott Bistro winery in Marlborough area of New Zealand. The most sparkling of any sparkling wine I have had. Bubbles were still forming intensely from the base of the glass 10 minutes after it was poured. As they mention in their description, the wine has “a fine and persistent mousse,” and it tasted great. Cost was $24NZD. My rating 8/10.

Bailly Lapierre Réserve Brut Crémant de Bourgogne

"Sourced from the heart of the Auxerre district, this Burgundian bubbly displays attractive citrus, nuts, toast with delicate floral and biscuit tones. Cleansing and fresh, it will be a great pairing for seafood." – LCBO. Decanter's rating of 92.

Light amber, as in the quintessential champagne colour. Finishes dry with very good toasty finish. I would enjoy this as an accompaniment to seafood or white meat rather than for quaffing. 7.5/10

Kew 2019 Organic Riesling Sparkling

Typical Riesling colour and a light flinty nose. It has lots of foam initially which disappears quickly. Taste is quite dry for even a dry Riesling without the usual touch of fruitiness, and it has a tart flinty aftertaste. Overall taste is quite simple. 7/10
